Generate Canada (formerly The Natural Step Canada) is a sustainability organisation fostering cross-sector collaboration on systemic environmental, economic and social solutions in Canada.
Generate Canada, founded in 1996 and formerly known as The Natural Step Canada, is a sustainability organisation that works across sectors to develop systemic solutions to environmental, economic and social challenges in Canada. Over nearly three decades its focus has shifted from organisational change toward economy-wide systemic transformation, with technical work spanning sustainability science, policy research, circular economy, climate-smart agriculture, nature finance and the energy transition.
Its principal vehicle is a set of Solution Spaces: collaborative platforms that bring together problem-solvers across sectors, supply chains and stakeholder groups to tackle challenges such as eliminating plastic waste, advancing climate-smart agriculture, directing investment into nature and accelerating Canada's energy transition. A partnership with the Smart Prosperity Institute supplies research and policy expertise to develop and pressure-test scalable, human-centred solutions.
The organisation is mission-driven and structured around deep cross-sector collaboration rather than single-organisation delivery. Work is grounded in world-class research and policy analysis and is designed to be human-centred and scalable. Operations are focused on Canada.
