DPR Construction

DPR Construction is a self-performing, negotiating general contractor that builds highly complex and technical projects for customers in advanced technology, healthcare, higher education, life sciences and commercial markets. Founded in 1990 by construction veterans Doug Woods, Peter Nosler and Ron Davidowski - the D, the P and the R - the firm was started with $750,000 of pooled founder capital and a first-year team of 11 professionals. It has since grown into a multi-billion-dollar organisation that consistently ranks among the top 50 general contractors in the United States.

Unlike commodity contracting, DPR negotiates its work and performs much of the construction itself, concentrating on demanding project types such as advanced technology, life sciences and healthcare facilities. The company describes construction as a service business rather than a manufacturing business, and organises its work around great teams, great projects and great relationships.

DPR is employee-owned. Its stated purpose - “We Exist to Build Great Things.”® - was articulated in 1992 with help from Jim Collins, then a Stanford professor, and is supported by four core values: Integrity, Enjoyment, Uniqueness and Ever Forward. The last of these reflects the growth mindset that carried the firm from an 11-person start-up to a nationwide contractor operating across the United States.
