CodeDay is a 501(c)(3) non-profit offering hands-on opportunities for under-served students to explore technology, run by a remote team with published values on equity, learning and flat decision-making.
CodeDay is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organisation that provides welcoming, hands-on opportunities for under-served students to explore a future in technology and beyond. Its stated mission is to shape the next generation of tech enthusiasts and professionals, with a focus on education, equity and innovation. The organisation works in the education and tech-education fields and describes its aim as bringing more creativity into tech education and having a tangible impact on under-served students' lives and careers.
The organisation operates a supportive remote work environment intended to foster personal and professional growth. Its published values set out how it expects to work: do right by the students, even when it is hard, and treat the organisation as a voice for what students want; innovate from first principles by rethinking education and working backwards from students' needs; learn something new every day and share and celebrate those learnings; and draw ideas from everyone, including volunteers and attendees new to the organisation.
Two further values shape internal practice. CodeDay aims to fight bureaucracy, keeping decision-making power with those doing the work and expecting staff to take ownership to improve or remove bad process. It also asks employees to be authentic and accessible, solving problems with resourcefulness and genuine human connection, and to say yes to fun, maintaining a playful culture that does not take itself too seriously.
