    Responsible to: Athletic Director/High School Principal

    Supervises: Students

    Salary:  $57,500 � $75,500

        

    Terms of Employment:  215 days

    FLSA Status: Exempt

     

    Purpose of the Position:  

    • Baugo Community Schools and the Jimtown Athletic Department, an IHSAA 2A high school and member of the Indiana Northern State Conference (INSC), is seeking a Strength and Conditioning Coach to establish and maintain an athletic performance program for all sports, with the three major goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. This position will devise training plans in collaboration with our Head Coaches based on scientific principles, supervise and lead training sessions, evaluate athletes, maintain athlete records, teach strength and conditioning classes as needed, provide supervision of the fitness center, cultivate a positive training environment that encourages team building, accountability, discipline, and work ethic. This position serves the Athletic Department and the Physical Education Department. 

     

    Minimum Requirements:  The following are the qualifications and minimum requirements necessary for a person to perform this job.

    • BS in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or related field.
    • A current relevant professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency�for example, the NSCA (CSCS), ISSA (SSC), NCSF (CSC), or CSCCa (SCCC) preferred.
    • Current Membership within the National High School Strength and Conditioning Association (NHSSCA) preferred.
    • Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications.
    • A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training.
    • Experience and/or expertise in strength and conditioning programming for high school populations.
    • Evidence of ability to interact positively with student athletes, colleagues, and the public.
    • Evidence of strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills.

     

    Essential Functions of the Position:  The following functions have been determined by Baugo Community Schools to be essential to the successful performance of this position.

    • Design and implement strength training and performance programs in-season, off-season, and pre-season for all school-sanctioned male and female athletic programs in a manner that reflects research-driven practices. 
    • Design and support strength and performance units of study for individual student/student athletes implemented in conjunction with physical education classes.
    • Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sports coaches. 
    • Design and implement policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards and Guidelines.
    • Develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and athlete progress in conjunction with the sports coaches.
    • Conduct an annual needs-analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coach and the team's athletic trainer at the conclusion of each sport season.
    • Annually conduct and review a departmental Risk Management Plan.
    • Complete an annual budgetary proposal for the program that includes routine maintenance, purchase of new equipment, and staffing needs.
    • Determine and reinforce expectations for athlete conduct that mirror the school's expectations for curricular and extra-curricular activities, as stated in the school's Student Code of Conduct.
    • Ensure the equipment in the weight room and related fitness spaces is properly cared for

     

    Secondary Functions of the Position:  The following functions, while important and necessary to the position, have been determined by Baugo Community Schools to be marginal to the successful performance of this position.

    • Design and instruct strength and performance classes (APC), as needed.
    • Assist with Activities Center scheduling, and community hours
    • Coordinate a co-curricular novice level program exposure for grades 5 � 8 that serves as a strength and performance introduction reflecting research-driven practices. 
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    Knowledge of:

    • Policies, procedures and functions of Baugo Community Schools Board of Trustees and the Indiana Department of Education

     

    Ability to:

    • Plan, organize, and schedule priorities.
    • Use independent judgment and initiative in making sound decisions and in developing solutions to problems.
    • Discreetly handle confidential and politically sensitive matters.
    • Make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
    • Tactfully and courteously respond to requests and inquiries/complaints from the general public and staff.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.

     

    Equipment Used:

    • Must know how to operate strength training equipment, automated external defibrillator (AED), and sports aid equipment.

     

    Place Where Work is Performed:

    • Jimtown High School Fitness Center and related athletic performance spaces

     

    Physical Demands:

    • Ability to demonstrate the appropriate skills and techniques to be used by the athletes. Ability to visually monitor athletes. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes up to 50 lbs.

     

    Evaluation Period:

    • evaluations throughout the school year as per BCS Performance and Assessment Procedures.
    • Annual summative evaluation prior to July 1.
    • Evaluations performed by the Athletic Director
