  • Penrith campus with flexible working arrangements.
  • Salary: $97,693 – $104,713 per annum, plus 17% Super and Leave Loading.

Provide specialist technical support that underpins teaching and research in civil and construction engineering.

The Opportunity
Western Sydney University is seeking a Senior Technical Support Officer to provide high-quality technical services supporting teaching and research activities in Civil and Construction Engineering. This role sits within the Teaching and Research Technical Services team and works closely with academic staff, researchers and students to ensure practical learning and research environments operate safely and effectively.

The position focuses on preparing and supporting practical teaching spaces such as laboratories and workshops, maintaining and operating specialised engineering equipment, and providing expert advice on the safe and appropriate use of facilities. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with safety standards, supporting audits, and developing and maintaining standard operating procedures.

In addition to teaching support, the role contributes to research and commercial projects, including assisting researchers and HDR students, coordinating equipment servicing, managing procurement of consumables and minor equipment, and supporting data collection. There is also scope to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and, when required, provide informal supervision during project-based work.

About You

  • A degree in Civil, Structural or Construction Engineering, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience providing technical support in civil and construction engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrated capability in operating and maintaining complex engineering equipment.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Well-developed communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
