Job Description

The team

The Experience Platforms team are responsible for guiding the development of experiences at SEEK. Within Design Systems this includes building and supporting a multi-platform design system, a zero-install code-orientated design environment, and a library for enhancing the predictability of text sizing and layout.

We design, develop and deliver tools and platforms used by SEEK to build performant and consistent experiences for our users. We manage our own roadmap in close consultation with our customers – the SEEK engineering and design community.

We define our own ways of working, striving to bring a balance of passion and pragmatism to everything we do. We embrace flexible working arrangements from hybrid through to fully remote. We have a particularly strong culture of open-source development. The open-source projects our team maintains includes the Braid Design System, Playroom and Capsize.

About the role 

The Senior Software Engineer role is a key technical contributor and collaborative force within our SEEK Group engineering teams. In this role, you will work closely with a small group of engineers, providing technical mentorship and guidance, while playing a central part in delivering high-quality software within the Design Systems team. You will champion engineering best practices, drive continuous improvement, and help elevate the overall standard of technical excellence across the team.

Your primary focus will sit at the intersection of design and engineering - writing clean, scalable, and testable code while upholding high-quality development practices and standards. You will bring a strong design sensibility to your technical work, ensuring that the components and tooling you build are not only functionally robust but also visually coherent and true to the design intent. By bridging the gap between design and code, you will leverage your unique expertise to contribute to and drive the evolution of the Design System, ensuring it continues to meet the ever-changing needs of the product delivery teams that depend on it.

Responsibilities 

Build

  • Build, test, deploy and maintain software from development through to production.
  • Troubleshoot and manage support requests from product delivery teams through to resolution.
  • Build highly scalable and performant design system foundations in alignment with existing frameworks and SEEK's technology strategy.

Execute

  • Strengthen engineering discipline and team capability.
  • Consistently write clean, well-tested, readable software, using secure coding practices, current patterns and tooling.
  • Develop systems thinking around design token architecture, component composability, and maintainable APIs that serve a diverse range of consuming teams at scale.

Support

  • Act as a key contributor to communities of practice at SEEK, championing design system adoption and advocacy across the organisation.

Qualifications

Skills and experience 

Technical

  • Extensive knowledge of React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript & TypeScript.
  • Experience developing applications in accordance with accessibility guidelines, including familiarity with ARIA guidelines and screen reader technologies.
  • Experience working on or contributing to a Design System, component library, or shared frontend platform.

Leadership

  • Ability to collaborate with and influence cross-functional stakeholders, including product, design, and engineering peers.
  • Experience contributing to or influencing the governance of a Design System, including component contribution models, versioning strategies, and deprecation processes.

Personal

  • Strong communicator, able to present to and influence both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Open-minded collaborator with a growth mindset, who actively seeks and incorporates feedback.
