Registered Dietician - Position Overview
- The Dietician is responsible for providing evidence-based nutrition services for children and adolescents in the CARES Center and School Day program, supporting their physical, emotional, and psychiatric well-being. This includes providing appropriate menu planning, food service oversight, medication-nutrition management, individualized care plans, nutrition assessments, and special diets as needed.
- The Dietician should monitor current youth’s dietary needs and active medications to ensure the meals and snacks provided meet their unique needs.
- The Dietician is responsible for tailoring food service delivery in a manner that is trauma informed and is aligned with the CARES Center Clinical Model. He/she must display knowledge of Policies and Procedures relating to dietary and have working knowledge of Dietary, Safety and Infection Control plans and documentation.
- Must ensure the environment and interactions with youth are aligned with the CARES Center Clinical Model.
Job Responsibilities:
Clinical and Technical
- Complete nutritional assessments on each youth on admission to the CARES Center.
- Advise the Dietary Manager on nutritional needs as indicated by the nutritional assessment for each youth to ensure proper nutrition is provided to each child.
- Be familiar with youths’ medication and nutrition interaction and specific needs and apply that understanding to the daily snacks and meals.
- Oversee monthly menu creation to ensure meal contents meet nutritional needs of youth.
- Oversee timing of meal and snack delivery to ensure it meets youths’ physical, emotional, and psychological needs.
- Assist in recipe creation to ensure youth are receiving proper macro and micronutrients needed.
Documentation
- Complete nutritional assessments with professional language and upload into the youth’s ECR.
- Keep records of the monthly menus, including values to indicate what youth are being served at each meal and each snack.
- Participate in data analysis periodically to assess for quality service.
Education and Counseling
- Educate youth and caregivers on nutrition in conjunction with family partner and activities coordinator.
- Provide culturally sensitive and age-appropriate resources to youth and families as needed.
- Provide education to CARES Center team members as needed to increase awareness and understanding of nutritional needs of youth.
Other
- Participate in monthly supervision with supervisor.
- Participate in monthly dietary team meetings.
- Participate in the CARES Center training and education programs as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (required by CDR as of Jan 2024) in Nutrition/Dietetics or related field.
- Completion of an ACEND-accredited program and supervised practice.
- Current Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential.
- Eligible for or holds Mississippi Dietitian Licensure (LD).
