Salary Scale: AFSCME UA, Grade 14-15

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
•    High School Diploma or equivalency certificate is required.
•    Holds and maintains a valid Maryland State Master plumber or Journeyman plumber license, is required. 
•    Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive plumbing experience, of which at least five (5) years’ experience as a service/maintenance Plumber.  

QUALIFICATIONS
•    Reads and interprets blueprints.
•    Understands basic commercial building mechanical and plumbing systems.
•    Knowledge of Charles County Plumbing Code and regulations. 
•    Must be in good physical condition.
•    Has a valid Maryland Class C driver’s license.
•    Good driving record and insurability with the Charles County Public School System’s insurance carrier.
•    Additional training as required to successfully perform assigned duties.
•    Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff and school faculty.
•    Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
•    Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
•    Works overtime as required in cases of emergency.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
•    Work leader and supervises the work of less skilled tradesmen engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing and heating systems.
•    Regularly clears wastewater/sewage lines.  
•    Services/maintains/rebuilds pump systems, lift stations, and fire prevention sprinkler systems.
•    Instructs new employees in proper practices and procedures of the trade.  
•    Installs water service piping.
•    Taps water and sewer mains and laterals.
•    Installs and repairs fixtures such as lavatory facilities, drinking fountains, and sprinkling systems.
•    Cuts, bends, and threads pipes.
•    Installs and repairs hot and cold water, oil, steam, and gas pipes; and makes all necessary connections.
•    Repairs pipes and valve traps in the heating system.
•    Responds to emergency situations, as necessary.
•    Familiar with procedures and regulations pertaining to hazardous materials.
•    Practices safe work habits involving self and other employees.  
•    Drives commercial service vehicles, trucks, and vans.
•    Loads and tows equipment trailers. 
•    Communicates verbally and in writing with CCBOE staff.
•    Practices safe work habits involving self and other employees.
•    Works from step and extension ladders, scaffolds, man lifts, scissors lifts, aerial boom lifts, and bucket trucks.
•    Uses smartphone, tablet, and laptop to access and enter information required for the maintenance work order system and time keeping.
•    Performs other duties as assigned by the Foreman.

The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and operate machinery. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop, or kneel, reach above the head, and reach forward. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb onto ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, such as a toolbox. Occasionally, the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs., such as furniture or equipment. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, scaffolds, and cabinets. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to focus. The employee will regularly work indoors and outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, sprays, cleaners, fertilizers, seed, and non-household dust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and occasionally will work in a loud area.
