We Offer
We are seeking a Project Engineer to support capital and plant improvement projects at a heavy industrial steel manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for managing projects from concept through commissioning, including scope development, budgeting, vendor coordination, and field execution.
This position will work across multiple disciplines with a emphasis on electrical power distribution, controls systems, and industrial automation, while also supporting mechanical and facility-related projects.
- Lead capital and plant support projects from initiation through commissioning
- Develop project scope, cost estimates, schedules, and justification packages
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and leadership to define project requirements
- Manage contractors, integrators, and vendors during installation and startup
- Review and interpret electrical one-lines, panel layouts, control schematics, and P&IDs
- Support design and implementation of:
• Power distribution systems (low/medium voltage)
• Motor controls (MCCs, VFDs, starters)
• Industrial networks and instrumentation
- Ensure projects meet safety, code, and company standards
- Track project budgets and timelines (CAPEX accountability)
- Provide hands-on field support during outages, installs, and commissioning
- Electrical systems (480V–15kV, switchgear, transformers)
- PLCs / automation (Allen-Bradley)
- Industrial networking / low voltage systems
- Heavy industrial environments (steel, paper, mining, etc.)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related)
- 3–8+ years of relevant experience in:
- Industrial/manufacturing environments OR engineering project management / capital projects
- Experience managing projects, contractors, or installations
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in a plant environment
- PMP certification or formal project management training
- Experience with SAP, budgeting, or capital planning processes
- Experience working in shutdowns/outages
- Someone who can own a project end-to-end
- Comfortable being in the field, not just behind a desk
- Able to work across disciplines (electrical + mechanical + operations)
- Practical, execution-focused mindset—not purely theoretical
- Willing to learn gaps (especially electrical, if not their core strength)
- High visibility role with direct impact on plant performance
- Mix of technical + project leadership
- Broad exposure across electrical, mechanical, and process systems
- Opportunity to grow into senior engineering or leadership roles
