African Parks is a non-profit organization that takes on total responsibility for the rehabilitation and
long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities.
The African Parks Network owns and operates a fleet of fixed wing, rotor wing, ultra-light and unmanned aircraft. This fleet of aircraft is deployed in aerial support functions across the parks and regions within the African Parks Network. The AP Network owns and operates a Pilatus PC-12 aircraft as a regional support aircraft.
We are looking for an experienced PC-12 pilot to operate in our diverse and sometimes challenging area of operations. This role will require the incumbent to operate our aircraft safely, professionally and efficiently at all times.
Non-exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities:
Primary functions:
- Safe, efficient and compliant PC-12 operations.
- Carry out all flights as required to ensure efficient APN operations
- Flight planning, overflight clearances and logistical arrangements for flights across Africa
- Take full responsibility for the safety, legal compliance and operational efficiency of the required aerial support operations
- Organize / oversee / manage the required maintenance on the aircraft
- Oversee aircraft care, cleaning and preparation for flights
- Take the lead on organizing / managing any regional authorizations required
- Maintain flight folio/logbook, online Flight Management System and operations admin up to date
- Secondary support functions may be required / requested from time to time, these may include but are not limited to safety management, administrative support, operations management support
- Carry out any other relevant tasks that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor
What success looks like in 1 year:
- Fully functional, safe and legally compliant aerial operations with:
- Full responsibility for the safety and operations of the flights; an
- Full responsibility for the maintenance oversight of organizations’ aircraft.
- Full responsibility for the care and cleanliness of the aircraft
- Zero preventable incidents / accidents and exemplary safety record

This position will report to the Head of Aviation, African Parks Network
This position will be an African Parks Head Office position with frequent remote work and travel.
Qualifications and Experience:
The position will require a high level of experience in the general / commercial aviation sector.
The following minimum qualifications / experience required:
- Minimum current Commercial Pilots’ Licence issued by the applicable Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA), with ratings / certification on Pilatus PC-12 series aircraft.
- Valid and current instrument flight rating, demonstrable instrument time;
- Valid and current night rating;
- Valid Class 1 medical certificate;
- Minimum 2000 hours Total time
- Minimum 500 hours Turbine / Turboprop time
- Minimum 100 hours on make and model
Preferred qualifications / experience:
- Demonstrable experience in bush flying and remote operations and willing to be based in a remote area with minimal infrastructure and support
- Excellent organizational, analytical, oral and written communications skills in English.
