We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Head of Engineering Management to join us in our Infrastructure Delivery team on a full-time permanent basis.
Reporting to the General Manager, Infrastructure Engineering, you will provide strategic leadership for the Engineering Management function, ensuring the delivery of fit‑for‑purpose engineering designs for Gas Transmission and Storage projects, post Financial Investment Decision. This includes FEED through to delivery support. You will be accountable for strong interface management with APA’s Engineering Strategic Partner for all greenfield capital projects, while also leveraging internal engineering capability to deliver brownfield projects and as Owner’s Engineering support. This role plays a critical part in supporting the transformation of APA’s infrastructure engineering model, enabling consistent, high‑quality technical outcomes across APA’s capital growth portfolio by optimising internal capability, external partnership ensuring end‑to‑end engineering governance.
The location for this role is flexible and hybrid; we will consider locations all over Australia.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the transformation (establishment), strategic development, optimisation and governance of the Engineering Management function, ensuring structure, processes and talent support for the capital project pipeline.
Manage and develop the internal Owner’s Engineer team (Engineering Managers and Project Engineers), building a high‑performing engineering delivery capability across gas transmission and storage projects.
Establish, maintain and lead strong interface with APA’s Engineering Strategic Partner, ensuring high‑quality technical outputs, efficient delivery, value improvement and consistent performance across projects.
Oversee technical lifecycle progression of projects post-FID from pre‑FEED through to detailed design and delivery support.
Deliver technical assurance, quality, compliance and technical integrity across all engineering deliverables, including rigorous engineering change control and proactive management of technical risks.
Your background
Demonstrated people leadership, with experience leading Engineering Managers and Project Engineers through transformation and new ways of working in a fast‑paced capital delivery environment.
Strong technical assurance capability across engineering design, change control, construction and compliance
Commercial and contract management experience with engineering design consultancies and technical service providers
Financial acumen in budget forecasting and resource optimisation
Highly effective at building strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across Operations, Procurement, Development and Project Delivery teams
About the Team
The Engineering Management team sits within the Infrastructure Delivery division and plays a critical role in delivering APA’s gas transmission and storage capital projects pipeline. We are responsible for ensuring that engineering designs, technical requirements and project solutions are safe, compliant and meet customer and operational needs.
With a large portfolio of capital projects underway, our team works collaboratively across a matrix environment including Project Delivery, Operations, Development and external design partner. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a high‑performing engineering function, develop breadth of organisational capability and contribute to the successful delivery of major gas transmission and storage projects across Australia.
