This role will be working in Raytheon’s Combat System Support Agent team maintaining the Royal Australian Navy’s capability on the Hobart Class DDG Destroyers.

You will be a member of a pool of systems, hardware, software, specialty engineering and logistics designers developing and implementing design changes to the Combat System, experiencing the whole design lifecycle from requirements definition through to customer Acceptance.

Based at Raytheon offices in Macquarie Park, NSW, this role will also include activities undertaken at the DDG’s home port at Garden Island. With a physical presence at the DDG’s home port you will have opportunity to interact directly with members of the DDG System Project Office and Ship Staff, the end users of your work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Software Engineer for the Australian Tactical Interface (ATI), supporting the operation of the DDG combat system;
  • Work in an Agile software development environment to develop software solutions that meet customer requirements within cost, schedule and quality constraints;
  • Development of software design, requirement specifications, and verification documentation;
  • Liaise with the ATI Software Lead on project engineering issues, design process and engineering change development in according to company and program procedures.

Skills/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering (minimum 4 years);
  • Sub-major in real-time systems desirable.
  • Experience in development of software applications (experience with Ada, Python, and/or Java highly desirable);
  • Experience with configuring the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) server environment;
  • Experience with Hypervisor virtual machine monitor configuration highly desirable;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills essential;
  • Use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques;
  • Previous exposure to Defence Systems Engineering processes and tools is highly desirable;
