FIREFIGHTER PARAMEDIC functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Emergency Response:
    • Respond promptly to fire and medical emergencies and other related support calls, assessing situations upon arrival and determining appropriate response actions.
    • Utilize radio, telephone, and dispatch communications to coordinate response activities.
    • Assess emergency situations upon arrival and determine appropriate response and mitigation actions.
    • Perform fire suppression tactics, rescue operations, and medical interventions as needed.
  • Medical Care:
    • Provide emergency medical care to patients, including conducting physical exams, administering necessary medical treatments, and transporting patients to medical facilities.
    • Maintain compliance with all laws and regulations regarding medication storage and handling.
    • Complete medical reports, stock medical supplies, and document all services provided.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    • Perform preventative maintenance on fire fighting and medical equipment, ensuring apparatus operates properly and safely.
    • Identify and replace faulty parts as needed, documenting maintenance actions and reporting any issues.
    • Assist with fire station cleaning activities and ensure station property is well-maintained.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Prepare and maintain reports, assist in planning department objectives, and participate in meetings and activities.
    • Stay informed about developments in fire fighting methods and techniques, contributing to the formulation of guidelines and procedures.
    • Educate the community on fire safety through public inquiries, presentations, and demonstrations.
  • Community Education:
    • Educate the community about fire safety by responding to inquiries, presenting fire safety tips to schools and businesses, and demonstrating proper fire extinguisher use and first aid procedures.
    • Assist with public tours of the fire station and participate in community outreach events as needed.
  • Training and Certification:
    • Maintain firefighting and paramedic certifications through participation in continuing education programs.
    • Attend training sessions to enhance medical, firefighting, driving, and computer skills.
    • Adhere to work schedule and attendance requirements to ensure readiness for emergency response.
  • Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education & Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: No previous relevant work experience is required.

Supervisory: No previous supervisory experience is required.

Certifications/Licenses: TCFP Basic Structural Firefighter Certification; DSHS Paramedic Certification**; ACLS; PALS; CPR & AED; Class B Exempt Driver's License preferred

**Candidates who currently hold an EMT certification may be considered; however, appointment to the position requires obtaining Paramedic certification within one year of hire.
