DescriptionUnder the Direct Supervision of the Fairchild Fire Chief and set officers, this position will perform technical work providing fire suppression, rescue operations, appropriate patient care, and public education programs. Firefighters will be part-time, working a 10 hour day Monday-Friday. (not required to work every day) Duties are performed under emergency conditions and frequently involve considerable personal hazards while responding to fire alarms and emergency medical calls.

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Provide input, feedback, research, and manpower as needed to assure the department is providing the best service possible to the public.
- Maintains continuous awareness and adherence to department policies and procedures.
- Maintain personal physical fitness and participate in on-duty physical fitness activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes, safety procedures and standards, and knowledge of the characteristics of hazards and their consequences.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and techniques of fire inspection and investigation activities, and the ability to write reports.
- Knowledge of the geography of the Fire District including major streets, buildings, and landmarks.
- Knowledge of protective equipment required, as dictated by department policy and assessment of the situation. PPE may include, but is not limited to: steel toed boots, helmet, special clothing, gloves, eye protection, ear protection, self-contained breathing apparatus device.
- Superior interpersonal skills to be able to handle emergency situations and irate, hysterical, frightened or injured individuals; assume control of the situations by attempting to verbally calm individuals; handle life and property threatening situations; work with other firefighters and emergency personnel as a team;
- Extensively skilled in handling machines, tools, equipment and work aides, such as chainsaws, smoke detectors, generators, self-contained breathing apparatus, fire pumps, nozzles, axes, pike poles, ladders, ropes, jaws and power unit, hoses, hydrant wrench, generators. vehicles, reference materials and books, traffic signs, instruction manuals; standard operating procedures.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must possess the following: (Current or up to date)
- A valid Texas Drivers license (Class B Exempt or greater).
- Basic Structural Firefighter certification from SFFMA or TCFP.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic or higher from DSHS.
- NIMS 100,200,700 and 800.
- Must demonstrate a strong ability to:
- Adapt and be flexible to a frequent changes in a fast paced work environment
- Collaborate and work effectively in a team environment with people of various backgrounds or styles.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, to include clear, concise, and professional presentation of information.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft office and all reporting software used.
Conditions of Employment:
- You will be required to provide proof of legal authorization to work in the United States as required by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986 as amended and complete Form I-9.
- You must submit and obtain satisfactory results from company background checks and substance abuse testing.
- You will be required to work at least 4 shifts a month. (10 hour day)
