Summary: The critical care paramedic serves as a team member of the critical care transport team by utilizing their knowledge and skills to function as a ‘physician extender’, bringing tertiary management skills to the bedside of critically ill or injured patients.

Maintains positive communication (written and spoken) when collaborating with healthcare facilities.
Proficient in all job responsibilities and expectations listed under Paramedic I. Including those advanced skills below:
Rapid sequence intubation
Advanced airway management, including cricothyroidotomy
Needle thoracentesis
IO insertion
Radial arterial line (A-line) insertion and monitoring
Ventilator management (and initiation)
Ultrasound diagnostic bedside imaging
Demonstrates competency and knowledge in the following:
Critical Care ground transport:
Critical Care and Emergent physiological conditions, i.e., STEMI, LVO, trauma, high-risk OB, Sepsis,
Ambulance Safe Operation/DOT Standards, Crew Resource Management (CRM), Just Culture,
Incident Command Systems (ICS) and role in disaster responses
Demonstrates general knowledge of Incident Command Systems (ICS) and role in disaster responses.
Demonstrates understanding and proficiency in disaster triage.
Other duties & skills as assigned and approved.
Qualifications /Training:
A minimum of 3 years’ experience with a busy 911 system AND current critical care certification
Previous critical care ground or flight experience preferred.
Knowledge in advanced airway & ventilator management required.
Successful completion of Life Reach CCT Concepts within 6 months of hire
NIMS 100 and 200 required within 6 months of hire
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations/Education
High School Diploma AND
South Carolina Paramedic Certification
National Registered Paramedic certification.
Valid Driver’s license
ACLS, PALS, BLS certifications are required.
Current Critical Care Board Certification (FP-C, CCP-C) Required
Associate Degree in Health Science, Paramedicine or Fire Science preferred
