Join Aurecon’s HR Team as our first AI Engineer, a newly created role focused on improving how our people experience work through responsible, human-centered AI. This is a highly collaborative, people facing role. While technical capability is important, success in this position relies heavily on your ability to communicate clearly, explain ideas, build relationships, and work confidently with stakeholders across the business. 

You’ll design, build, and optimise AI powered tools that support recruitment, talent, performance, and career pathways, enabling data driven decision-making and supporting Aurecon’s People Activation Plan and cultural transformation. 

Here are the key things you will do to ‘bring ideas to life’: 

• Work closely with stakeholders to understand needs and translate them into practical, usable AI solutions  
• Clearly explain technical concepts to nontechnical audiences and contribute confidently to discussions  
• Design and deploy AI agents and models to automate HR processes such as recruitment, performance reviews, and career pathways  
• Integrate AI capabilities into enterprise platforms including Workday, Microsoft Copilot, and Teams  
• Develop, refine, and optimise prompts, models, and AI workflows  
• Champion ethical and responsible AI practices in line with Aurecon governance  
• Monitor and improve AI solution performance, accuracy, and fairness 

What we’re looking for: 

•  Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to speak clearly and confidently  
• Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate with a range of stakeholders 
• Comfort explaining ideas, asking questions, and engaging in group discussions  
• Experience or strong interest in AI, automation, data, or digital solutions  
• Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript, or the ability and willingness to learn quickly  
• Familiarity with Generative AI concepts and tools 
• Curiosity, adaptability, and an openness to learning in a fast evolving space 

Career stage & qualifications 

We’re open to candidates at different stages of their career, including: 

• University graduates or earlycareer professionals who have recently completed a relevant degree and demonstrate strong communication skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn; and 
• More experienced candidates with deeper technical or delivery experience. 

A relevant tertiary qualification is desired, such as: 

• Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or Software Engineering; or 
• A closely related technical discipline with a postgraduate qualification (Master’s) in AI, Data Science, Machine Learning, or similar. 

Support and mentoring will be provided depending on experience level.
