General Purpose

Director designs, facilitates, and oversees our Adventure Camp program, including supervision of staff and campers, and developing field trips and activities. The ideal candidate will bring their own interest in outdoor recreation, serving as an enthusiastic facilitator and leader for a variety of nature and leisure based activities such as swimming, hiking, boating, and other specific program outings. Program director is responsible for the safety, comfort, and engagement of program participants and counselors. First Aid and CPR Certification required, but can be obtained through provided training prior to camp start date. Wilderness First Aid or similar credentials preferred but not required.

Pay Grade: $21.40 - $24.40 Hourly
Remote Tier 1: Zero (0) days remote/week

Essential Job Functions

  • Available June 15 – August 21.  
  • Plan and coordinate day to day operations for camp program, including but not limited to: weekly transportation, space maintenance, off and on-site activities, and staff appreciation.
  • Inventory, replace, and coordinate supplies before and during camp.  
  • Supervise, communicate with, and mentor camp staff.
  • Provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for participants  
  • Provide excellent customer service to parents, guardians, and caregivers through on-going communication and program updates
  • Support, along with program counselors, the supervision, engagement, and well-being of participants  for all activities and field trips.
  • Conduct staff evaluations 
  • Required to be on site 30 minutes before and after each camp day.
  • Follow all departmental and state license rules & regulations 
  • Maintain a safe area and report any deficiencies, incidents, or accidents to supervisor. 
  • Attend staff meetings and staff trainings as required.
  • Administer proper First Aid as required.
  • Participate in the evaluation process.
  • Position may require operation of City vehicle and/or personal vehicle to conduct City business

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

  • Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass a motor vehicle check.
  • Operation of a City vehicle or personal vehicle to conduct City business without providing proof of a valid driver's license to Human Resources will not be permitted.  A valid driver’s license shall be defined as a current state of residence-issued license to operate a motor vehicle on public roadways.  Position also requires the ability to be covered under the City’s vehicle insurance policy prior to operation of any City vehicles or non-City vehicles for City business
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Ability to supervise and organize groups of children for activity programs.
  • Ability to deal effectively with discipline problems, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Knowledge of safety principles and practices as they apply to group activities.
  • Knowledge of a variety of recreation/leisure activities and group games.
  • A cooperative attitude and a team player.
  • Enthusiasm, patience, a desire to work with children and creativity.
  • Upon conditional offer of employment candidate must successfully complete background investigation.
