Montgomery County Recreation is a nationally recognized and award-winning agency committed to providing high quality, diverse and accessible programs, services and facilities that enhance the quality of life for all ages, cultures and abilities. The department manages 39 facilities including recreation centers, senior centers and indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and provides thousands of programs such as out-of-school activities, aquatics, classes, youth and adult sports programs and leagues, senior programs, and therapeutic recreation.

Montgomery County Recreation is looking for energetic, highly motivated, Lifeguards

What You'll Be Doing

As a Lifeguard, you will: 

  • Perform patron surveillance during public recreational swim, camps, and assigned program times.
  • Enforce pool/facility rules in a courteous and consistent manner for patrons in the entire facility.
  • Ensure the health and safety of facility patrons 
  • Perform pool maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned
  • Provide appropriate rescues kills as needed as well as provide First Aid and CPR.
  • Learn something new EVERY DAY!
To be a successful Lifeguard, you MUST:
  • Be at least 15 years of age
  • Have a current lifeguarding, CPR/AED and First Aid certification from the American Red Cross, YMCA or other approved organization. 
  • Those with certifications other than the American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certification will cross over to Red Cross (training will be provided)
  • Be reliable, have good communication skills, good decision making and strong work ethic.
  • Be able to pass a water swim and Lifeguarding test to include CPR/AED and First Aid and meet required physical demands

Additional Information

This position will be supervised by career staff at the facility and stationed at County-operated aquatic facilities. Hours will vary depending on the operating schedule and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Selected candidates will be required to complete a criminal background check and drug screening prior to hire.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: Three hundred (300) hours of relevant work experience as a leader or instructor in one or more specialized recreation activities.
  • Education: Ability to read and write.
  • Equivalency: None.
SPECIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Current Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid and AED certifications from the American Red Cross or other agency approved by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services.

  • Aquatics positions require the Medical History Review with a Drug/Alcohol screen.
