Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital program, is dedicated to healing the invisible wounds – including post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, depression, co-occurring substance use disorder, family relationship challenges and other issues associated with Military service – for Veterans of all eras, Service Members, Military Families and Families of the Fallen through world-class clinical care, wellness, education, and research.

Location: Florida Gulf Coast University 10501 FGCU Blvd S Fort Myers, FL 33965

Training will be completed at Greater Naples YMCA in Collier County and Cape Coral.

Must be flexible with schedule. Monday- Friday with occasional wellness events on the weekend.


 

Job Summary

Summary:

Location: Florida Gulf Coast University 10501 FGCU Blvd S Fort Myers, FL 33965.

Responsible for coordinating and overseeing health and fitness programs within the hospital, ensuring that participants have access to comprehensive fitness services. Develops and implements wellness initiatives, collaborates with healthcare providers, and promotes healthy lifestyles through fitness education and activities.

Essential Functions:

-Develops and coordinates health and fitness programs tailored to participants
-Collaborates with clinical staff to integrate fitness programs into patient care plans.
-Conducts fitness assessments and creates personalized exercise plans for participants.
-Oversees the day-to-day operations of fitness facilities
-Organizes health and wellness workshops, seminars, and events.
-Monitors program effectiveness and makes adjustments to meet participant needs.
-Ensures compliance with safety regulations and hospital policies related to fitness activities.
-Maintains accurate records of program participation and outcomes.
-Assist in the active recruitment Veterans for the Warrior Health and Fitness Program.
-Assist with onboarding, initial assessment, and collection of base line metrics of Veterans and family members entering the program consisting of diagnostic fitness evaluations, physical fitness testing and coordination of educational classes on mind body medicine and nutrition
-Design and create daily fitness plans for the Warrior Health and Fitness Program participants, mandatory check- ins, as well as the collection of measures and data of participants will be created and managed by the Program Director.
-Evaluate veterans and their family members overall health, with special attention to cardiovascular function and metabolism.
-Design customized exercise programs to meet health care and fitness needs of veterans and their family members.
-Accurately documents and manages medical records
-Administers mind body, stress management groups as part of the fitness components of programming
-Assist with maintaining partnerships with community stakeholders, including but not limited to the local Vet Centers, local colleges and universities, and local organizations whose mission is to support veterans.
-In coordination with above mentioned community stakeholders, provide referrals for veteran participants for a multitude of needs, including those needing more complex care for the invisible wounds
-Assist with maintaining closed private group social media platforms disseminate and share information of upcoming workouts, check-ins, nutrition, mind body medicine information and resource sharing.
-Serve as a representative and “face” Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program.


 

Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor's Degree Cardiopulmonary & Exercise Science required or Bachelor's Degree Kinesiology required or Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required

Licenses and Credentials:
Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist [CSCS] - National Strength and Conditioning Association or Exercise Physiologist, American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) preferred

Experience:
Experience in health and fitness program coordination, preferably in a healthcare setting required and Certification in personal training, group fitness, or a related area 2-3 years preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient knowledge of fitness principles and wellness promotion.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare providers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficient communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to assess fitness levels and develop appropriate exercise plans.
- Proficiency in using fitness tracking and assessment tools.
