The Community Recreation and Culture Branch is looking for dynamic, energetic, professional and qualified individuals to instruct Strength and Conditioning programs to various adults. The working locations for these programs is Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre with the possibility of other City-wide Recreation Centres.
If you are an instructor and want to share your passion for Obstacle Fitness with preschoolers/children then this is the position for you!
What will you do?
- Deliver and lead group instruction in the time frame and manner that is determined by the class description
- Ensure classes are progressive, challenging and can adapt to varying levels of participant skills and abilities
- Encourage participants to improve on their progress in class
- Maintain a high level of enthusiasm throughout the class
- Promote the benefits of healthy living and physical activity
- Provide outstanding customer service to participants and patrons
- Sub classes and attend professional development workshops as needed
- Ensure spaces are kept tidy and orderly before, during and after classes
- Maintain program statistics, such as attendance, evaluations and incident reports
- Attend training as required
- Perform other duties as required

- Completion of a fitness instructor certification (Alberta Fitness, Canfitpro, YMCA, or equivalent)
- Pre/post natal classes; Pre/post natal course completion or certification
- Older Adult classes; Base certification along with Older Adult specialization
- Kinesiology degree, CPT or equivalent may be accepted
- Cycle; Keiser, YMCA, Canfitpro, Alberta Fitness or equivalent
Skills required for success:
- Ability to lead, organize, instruct and supervise group activities
- Ability to teach progressive skill development for all fitness levels and abilities
- Excellent communication, teamwork and leadership skills
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with program users and staff
- Provide excellent customer service and the ability to handle difficult situations

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Standard First Aid, CPR C and AED Certification
- Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
