Job Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Protect the safety and well being of all members and guests using the aquatic facilities. The Lifeguard will work directly with participants providing courteous, friendly and professional assistance. The Lifeguard is team oriented, friendly, and outgoing.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
● Ensure the safety of all members and guests using the aquatic facilities.
● Apply all pool safety rules and health code regulations consistently.
● Coordinate emergency procedures or provide first aid in emergency situations.
● Maintain positive relations and rapport with members and guests.
● Perform general pool maintenance functions as requested, including mandatory pool testing and recording.
● Attend scheduled staff meetings and in service training.
● Lifeguard attire must be worn while on duty.
● Perform other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director.


 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must hold current Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training Certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First Aid. Previous lifeguard experience preferred, but not required.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:


● Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
● Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
● Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
● Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
● Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
● Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
● Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.





WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is an outdoor position. Work conditions will consist of unpredictable New England Summer weather.
