Job Description:

The Associate Head Football Strength & Conditioning Coach assists the Director of Athletic Development in the leadership, organization, and implementation of comprehensive speed, strength, conditioning, and movement development programs for football student-athletes. This role serves as a senior member of the football performance staff, providing leadership, mentorship, and oversight while utilizing modern sports science, data-informed training methods, and best practices to maximize player performance, availability, and long-term development.

65% Assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of year-round speed, strength, conditioning, mobility, and movement programs specific to football and positional demands; Coach, teach, and demonstrate proper lifting techniques, sprint mechanics, conditioning methods, and recovery strategies during all training sessions; Collect, analyze, and interpret performance data, including GPS, workload metrics, and other monitoring tools, to inform training decisions and daily readiness; Supervise and motivate student-athletes to maintain a high standard of effort, discipline, and safety in all training environments; Assist in managing individualized training modifications based on performance data, injury status, and return-to-play guidelines.

10% Act on behalf of the Director of Athletic Development in their absence, ensuring continuity of leadership and performance standards; Provide leadership and mentorship to assistant strength coaches, graduate assistants, and interns; Oversee and manage the Football Strength & Conditioning Internship Program, including recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluation of interns.

10% Assist with football practices, games, team meetings, and staff meetings as assigned; Coordinate sideline warm-ups, organization, and discipline for all home and away football games; Support player readiness, recovery, and availability during competitive periods.

10%Collaborate closely with Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, and Performance Nutrition staff to support injury prevention, rehabilitation, and return-to-play protocols; Reinforce best practices related to recovery, hydration, nutrition, sleep, and daily habits that impact performance and durability.

5% Participate in continuing education, certification maintenance, and professional development opportunities; Advances and supports LSU and Athletics Department initiatives through personal participation in educational and developmental opportunities, as well as participation in the creation of an respectful culture consistent with the values of LSU and its Athletics Department; Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a sports science related field with one year experience in a collegiate or professional strength and conditioning environment; CSCS or CSCCa Certified; CPR/AED certified

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a Power Five collegiate football program and/or the NFL; Experience utilizing sports performance technology (GPS, VBT, force plates, athlete management systems).

Special or Physical Qualifications:

Ability to work extended days and weekends.  Travel is required. Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University PS-67.  Pre-employment drug screen and physical are required.
