The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach assists the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in the design, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive athletic development programs for football student-athletes. This role supports speed, strength, power, conditioning, movement efficiency, injury prevention, and return-to-play initiatives while leveraging modern sports science, technology, and data-informed practices. The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach plays a critical role in maximizing player performance, availability, and long-term development within today's highly competitive collegiate football environment.

60% Assist in the design and implementation of year-round strength, speed, conditioning, mobility, and movement programs tailored to football-specific demands and positional needs; Teach, demonstrate, and coach proper lifting techniques, sprint mechanics, conditioning methods, and recovery strategies; Motivate and supervise student-athletes during all training sessions, ensuring a high standard of effort, discipline, and safety; Utilize performance data (GPS, force plates, velocity-based training, wellness metrics, etc.) to inform training decisions and daily workload adjustments; Support long-term athletic development plans aligned with player availability, performance, and durability.

15% Work closely with Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, and Physical Therapy staff to assist with injury prevention strategies and return-to-play protocols; Implement modified training programs for injured or rehabbing athletes as directed by medical staff; Monitor training loads and recovery to reduce injury risk and optimize readiness.

10% Serve as a liaison between Strength & Conditioning and Performance Nutrition staff to support individual and team goals related to fueling, hydration, body composition, and recovery; Educate and reinforce best practices related to sleep, recovery modalities, and daily habits that impact performance.

10% Assist with football practices, team meetings, and game-day operations as assigned; Support sideline organization, discipline, warm-ups, and readiness for home and away games; Assist with monitoring player readiness and recovery during competitive periods.

5% Participate in continuing education, certification maintenance, and professional development opportunities; Advances and supports LSU and Athletics Department initiatives through personal participation in educational and developmental opportunities, as well as participation in the creation of an respectful culture consistent with the values of LSU and its Athletics Department; Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a sports/health science related field with one year experience in a collegiate or professional strength and conditioning environment and/or experience performing and teaching weight lifting, running and rehabilitation exercises in related field; CSCS or CSCCa Certified; CPR/AED certified.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a Power Five collegiate football program and/or the NFL; Experience utilizing sports performance technology (GPS, VBT, force plates, athlete management systems).

Special or Physical Qualifications:

Ability to work extended days and weekends.  Travel is required. Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University PS-67.  Pre-employment drug screen and physical are required.
