AEMT/Paramedic is a professional pre-hospital emergency care specialist who provides assessment and treatment of patients in a variety of settings. The AEMT/Paramedic performs medical duties as required and delegated by protocol at the level appropriate to their licensure by the State of Iowa Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services and approved by BVRMC's Ambulance Medical Director.
AEMT/Paramedic is a highly critical front-line representative for BVRMC. This role is key to the overall impression a patient and their family receive in emergency care. A AEMT/Paramedic may be the first contact a patient or family member has with BVRMC.
QUALIFICATIONS/ PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Must have completed an appropriate course at the AEMT/Paramedic level.
Valid AEMT/Paramedic certification from the State of Iowa. Valid Driver's/ Chauffeur's Class D Endorsement 3 license is required
Must maintain a satisfactory driving record as defined in the Motor Vehicles Records policy in the BVRMC Employee Handbook. BLS, ACLS,PALS certification required at time of hire. (AEMT not required to have ACLS, PALS certification.) Mandatory Reporter Training required within 6 months of hire.
Previous experience desirable, but not required.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:
Must be proficient with all skills listed under AEMT/Paramedic in the State of Iowa Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services Scope of Practice and BVRMC Ambulance Service Protocols. Knowledgeable in the State of Iowa Law Chapter 147 regarding EMS laws and the Iowa Code 321:231 concerning the Iowa Driving laws.
